Snowboarding 1- D- 0

So, I went snowboarding for the first time in 8 years yesterday! I went there having no idea if I still would know how to do it and no expectations on my skills (or lack there of). Even when I had gotten decent in the past I somehow always managed to eat shit while getting off the ski lift. No idea why it's just what always happened! Much to my surprise I got off the ski lift the first time without falling- yay! Too bad it went downhill from there.

My first run was going okay....slowly making my way down the mountain an getting more confident. I told my guy friends to go along and I would meet them at the bottom since they have a need for speed. I'm cruising down the hill slip on a patch of ice I didn't see and slam the back of my head on the ground. I literally felt my head bounce off the ice and my brain jiggle. It was such a strong thump that my glasses flew off me head- OUCH! The ski patrol guy and about 4 other guys came over to see if I was okay. I honestly couldn't' decide if I was okay for quite some time. I really did see stars! They got my glasses for me and helped me up. I somehow managed to brave down the rest of the hill. I tell the boys when I get down what happened and I think they thought I was just being dramatic....little did they know I was seeing 2 of each of them. Oh boy it was going to be a long day!

On my next time up on the ski lift I was adjusting my ear warmers and noticed one earring was missing! The back of it somehow managed to be on my ear, but the earring was no where to be found. My favorite earring had fallen out and I would never get it back again. Strike 2 to the mountain. My final mishap of the day was on my next run down. I was so scared or further brain injuries I had decided that if I was going to fall I would not fall anywhere hear my head. I was about 3/4 of the way down when I hit another patch of ice and this time fell forward and right on my left knee- HARD! After wanting to scream and cry I sit there and get myself together and continue down the hill in pain. Somehow I manage to make 4 more runs throughout the day will no falls. What did I learn from this experience? Maybe a helmet is a good idea even though they look silly and snowboarding in SoCal 'snow' isn't my thing. I like puffy white, deep snow so that if/when I fall I don't get permanent injuries or hobble home. I did have fun though....it's becoming more and more clear I like tormenting myself!
